What to Expect
We welcome you to your Catholic Engaged Encounter retreat. We feel confident you will find the weekend a beautiful marriage preparation experience that will bring you closer to each other and hopefully closer to God.
Check-in is from 6:30PM to 7:00PM on Friday night and we will start in the conference room as soon as all couples are checked in. Look for the “Engaged Encounter†sign when you arrive at the Acadiana Baptist Center (ABC). Someone will greet you, help you unload your luggage, show you to your rooms and get you settled.
We will celebrate Mass on Saturday morning. We understand that not all attendees are Catholic and we want all to feel welcome. You do not need to dress up for Mass on Saturday morning. We will close on Sunday with Mass, ending by 1:30PM. Attire for the closing Mass should be similar to the attire that you would wear to any Sunday Mass.
Meals and coffee will be provided. Water and soft drinks are available for a small cost. However, as we all like to snack, we ask you to bring a snack to share on our snack table: cookies, chips, cheese and fruit or one of your favorites. Also bring towels for showering and your own personal items such as shampoo, toothpaste, etc. Please don’t forget to bring any medications that you need and also your CPAP (if you have one). Bring comfortable clothes since the weekend is relaxed and very casual! You should bring your own pillow and sheets for a single bed or a sleeping bag. Men and women are housed separately in a dorm setting, so you will have a roommate(s). Also, please keep in mind there is no meal served on Friday night. The Acadian Baptist Center is a beautiful setting for a retreat and there will be time to explore the grounds if you wish.
The success of the weekend for you and for the other couples depends upon your participation. You will be required to stay the entire weekend at the ABC, and if for some reason you are not able to be present at all times, we request that you call us as soon as possible. If you must miss any part of the weekend, we suggest that you reschedule for a time when you can be present the entire weekend.
The weekend is presented by a priest and 2 couples. In a real sense, the weekend is made by you as a couple and the team is there to share some of their married experiences to help you focus on your relationship. We encourage you to dialogue privately with each other on all aspects of each talk given. It is a busy weekend, but it should be exciting and helpful for you. We know that you will come prepared to be open to each other. Please pray for our team too. We most warmly welcome you to the weekend. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns
